The website offers immediate access to all info about the conference : the Umbrella theme 'The Impatient Patient©', the program, the top notch speakers, the top location and other practicalities. On April 17th you will discover on a national and European level, together with all healthcare partners, more about the growing tendency for patients to become more outspoken, critical and informed.

20.05.2011 - Klinische studies in België: een stand van zaken

De aanzienlijke afname van klinische studies in 2009 in ons land, is afgeremd in 2010. Klinische studies zijn goedkoper in België dan in de andere EU-lidstaten en in de Verenigde Staten, maar duurder dan in de opkomende Oost-Europese landen, China en Rusland. Een verdere verschuiving van klinische studies naar deze landen behoort dan ook tot de mogelijkheden. Dat blijkt uit een recente analyse van PricewaterhouseCoopers (PWC) op vraag van 'The Initiative to Promote Clinical Trials in Belgium' (The Initiative) dat zich blijft inzetten voor het behoud van klinische studies in ons land.

20.05.2011 - Etudes cliniques en Belgique : point de la situation

La baisse significative du nombre d'études cliniques en 2009 dans notre pays a connu un ralentissement en 2010. Réaliser une étude clinique est meilleur marché en Belgique que dans les autres Etats membres de l'Union européenne et aux Etats-Unis, mais plus cher qu'en Europe de l'Est, en Chine ou en Russie. Un nouvelle vague de transferts vers ces pays n'est donc pas à exclure. C'est ce qu'il ressort d'une récente analyse de PriceWaterhouseCoopers (PWC) à la demande de la plate-forme « The Initiative to Promote Clinical Trials in Belgium » (The Initiative) qui continue de s'investir dans le maintien des études cliniques dans notre pays.

November 19 2010: Belgian EU Presidency: symposium Clinical Trials

The symposium "Clinical trials: from European perspective to National Implementation" took place on November 19th 2010 and was organised by the European Clinical Trials Facilitation Group (CTFG), the Belgian Federal Agency for Medicinal and Health Products (FAMHP) and pharma.be, the federation of the Belgian Pharma industry. The importance of clinical research for Belgium is multiple: not only does the conduct of clinical trials deliver a substantial contribution to the economy in the form of investments and jobs, but clinical trials are also a driver for the financing of scientific and academic research. Both are important drivers in a knowledge economy, that contribute to innovation and to the development of better medicines for mankind. Europe may be lagging behind in clinical research activities, as compared to other regions. In order to be competitive in this domain, the European Union needs to put in place an efficient framework and there is a need for further incentives for R&D all across Europe as well. Therefore, the European Commission is reconsidering the global context of clinical research with the aim to harmonise and simplify, with the objective to make the processes more lenient and efficient.

20 mai 2010 : journée internationale des essais cliniques

Le 20 mai a eu lieu la journée internationale des essais cliniques, qui célèbre la première étude randomisée documentée, réalisée par James Lind en 1747 à bord d'un navire de la marine écossaise. Cette journée était l'occasion de faire le point sur la position de la Belgique dans ce domaine. En effet, si aujourd'hui la Belgique occupe une place de leader, l'internationalisation des études cliniques vers des pays émergents pourrait changer la donne et avoir de graves conséquences sur l'économie de la connaissance, la R&D et les entreprises dans notre pays.

20 mei 2010: internationale dag van de klinische studies

Op 20 mei vond de internationale dag van de klinische studies plaats. Dit, ter herinnering aan de eerste gerandomiseerde, gedocumenteerde studie die in 1747 door James Lind uitgevoerd werd aan boord van een vaartuig van de Schotse marine. Deze dag was meteen ook de gelegenheid om een stand van zaken op te maken over de plaats die België inneemt op dit gebied. Ons land bekleedt vandaag nog wel een leidersplaats, maar de internationalisering van de klinische studies zorgt ook voor een toenemend belang van een aantal opkomende landen. Dat zou onze kansen wel eens kunnen doen keren en ernstige gevolgen kunnen hebben voor de kenniseconomie, Research & Development en de bedrijfswereld in ons land.

Encourager ensemble les études cliniques en Belgique

La Belgique dispose d'un réseau dense et performant de scientifiques, d'hôpitaux universitaires et non universitaires, de petites et de grandes entreprises (bio)pharmaceutiques, de spin-offs et d'entreprises de biotechnologie. Ensemble, ces acteurs constituent le fondement de la recherche sur les médicaments dans notre pays, laquelle contribue de manière considérable à notre santé et à l'économie de la connaissance. Grâce à leur collaboration et à la qualité de nos chercheurs, notre pays figure en tête du classement du nombre d'études cliniques par habitant: pas moins de 9 % des études cliniques européennes sont en effet réalisées en Belgique. En partenariat avec l'Agence fédérale des médicaments et des produits de santé (AFMPS) et à la demande de pharma.be, Deloitte a réalisé un premier rapport sur les études cliniques en Belgique. Entre-temps, quatre associations-clés élaborent des pistes de réflexion en vue de conserver le leadership de la Belgique en matière d'études cliniques.

Samen klinische studies in België aanmoedigen

België beschikt over een hoogstaand en uitgebouwd netwerk van academici, universitaire en niet-universitaire ziekenhuizen, (bio)farmaceutische bedrijven, spin-offs, biotech-bedrijven, en KMO's in de farmasector. Zij vormen de basis van het geneesmiddelenonderzoek in ons land, dat aanzienlijk bijdraagt tot onze gezondheid en kenniseconomie. Dankzij hun samenwerking en de kwaliteit van onze onderzoekers is België per capita koploper in klinische studies: niet minder dan 9 % van de klinische studies in Europa wordt immers uitgevoerd in ons land. In samenwerking met het Federaal Agentschap voor Geneesmiddelen en Gezondheidsproducten (FAGG) en op verzoek van pharma.be heeft Deloitte een eerste rapport over klinische studies in België afgewerkt. Intussen ontwikkelen vier sleutelverenigingen een aantal denksporen om samen met de overheid de Belgische toppositie inzake klinische studies te vrijwaren.
